Artist Profile from our Allen community!
Lindsay Farrell is an Allen parent and an artist! In fact, Allen Elementary is lucky enough to house one of her murals! (located in the 3rd, 4th, 5th grade wing) Lindsay has been kind enough to share some information about how she creates art. We are so lucky because this week, our theme is shape. If anyone knows anything about creating art with shapes, it is Lindsay! Want to see more? Visit Lindsay's website here: LINDSAY FARREL ART

Create like Lindsay, in her own words:
1. I usually start with a large brainstorm, shape free-for-all doodle. I love what comes out of drawing meditations / mark making without “thinking”. Only rule is to keep your hand moving, and no erasing! 2. I apply color to this, also keeping things pretty loose. I try to put contrasting colors next to each other in regards to hue, value, or saturation to make the edges of the shapes look sharp. If I put two pinks next to each other, I usually will make one very bright, and one more tinted. 3. Then I usually create a simple, smaller paper frame, or even take a picture of my large drawing and play with the crop tool on my phone. I look at the drawing for close up bits of my large drawing that look interesting to me, or colors combos that I like, and then paint one of these “cropped moments” into a larger, final painting. I like my paintings to hopefully show energy and movement, and I think the free drawing and cropping of shapes can sometimes capture that feeling. *All photos shared via https://lindsayfarrell.work/ with permission from the artist for Allen Elemntary Art |
Mrs. Conner's art using Lindsay's approach:
1. Shape doodle brainstorm (I used some flowers as inspiration for color and shapes)
2. Color (I didn't match colors perfectly to my inspiration)
3. Crop (I used paper to make a square and moved it around quite a bit)
4. Larger finished work (I used oil pastels on my larger version and changed the colors a bit, again!)
